I agree with the gut- we've had our nanny for 3 years- and this just reaffirms that we are going to have to pay her enough to make her happy so we avoid any of this craziness. Thanks.

Amy, I agree with your comment. I actually looked at the book on Amazon this weekend and read the first couple of pages. It's certainly worth borrowing from the library. Thank you!

I totally agree! It's so hard to listen to your gut and say no, when part of you doesn't want to be rude. And it's even harder when you feel it in your bones but cannot explain it to someone else.
Think of it this way- I would rather not be able to explain my feeling of intuition and be wrong, than share my feelings of remorse and guilt because of inaction.
Intuition is NEVER clouded with logic- which can be our greatest enemy.
I really think you need to read this book! (I am really not trying to sell it, you can get it free at a library!)
all my best~

Amy, one of the most difficult lessons I have had to learn is to trust my intuition, whether it is with respect to my family, myself, friends, or a new job. I wish I could say that I can remember instances in which it has not been on target, but I cannot. Sometimes the most difficult thing is when I have an "intuitive hit" or gut feeling about something for someone else. I have yet to find a good way to communicate this because it is not usually based on facts and logic, and for this reason, I sometimes have difficulty in trusting it myself.

What an amazing story. One thing stuck out to me. Way early in your meeting with this nanny, you had a "gut feeling" something was amiss. despite your husband's dismissing it, it was right on.
I just finished reading "Protecting the Gift" by Gavin DeBecker. It was a real eye opener- and thankfully has a whole chapter dedicated to the babysitter/nanny hiring and trusting your motherly intuition- which is always 100% accurate.
I hope things get better for you- thanks for the blog!

It's amazing what we can survive, especially looking back and seeing the whole picture. Even bad choices can become good lessons!

I admit that it got worse before it got better, but... my kids are fine, my husband and I learned a lot from the experience, and we now can look back on it with perspective and actually share some good laughs :)
